Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radha Krishnan said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam were “briefed in detail” about late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s health condition and the treatment she underwent at the Apollo hospital.
Radha Krishnan, who appeared before the Justice A Arumughaswamy-led inquiry panel, which is probing the circumstances that led to the death of Jayalalithaa, made the statement when asked by VK Sasikala’s counsel Radha Senthoor Pandian.
“O Paneerselvam was the one who ordered the probe and said he was unaware of what was happening in Apollo. When I asked Radhakrishnan, he said OPS as the CM was then aware of Jayalalithaa’s ailment and he said that all the senior ministers were briefed,” Pandian said.
The panel, constituted by the state government in September 2017 under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, had earlier summoned Radha Krishnan to appear before it.
The panel’s terms of reference was to inquire into the circumstances leading to Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation on September 22, 2016 and treatment provided till her death on December 5, 2016.
On Thursday, the panel summoned Panneerselvam to appear before it on December 20. Panneerselvam held the portfolios of late Jayalalithaa during her hospitalisation in 2016.
Health Minister C Vijayabaskar has also been summoned by the commission on December 18.
Senior AIADMK leader C Ponnaiyan and police officer Sudhakar, part of Jayalalithaa’s security team, have also been summoned to appear on December 18 and 20, respectively.
After unification of the two factions led by K Palaniswami and Panneerselvam in August 2017, the government notified constituting the panel.
