With the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepping up their attack on the Congress over Sam Pitroda’s remarks on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, party chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the Indian Overseas Congress chief should be ashamed of himself. “What Sam Pitroda said about 1984 was totally wrong and he should seek an apology from the country,” said Gandhi at a poll rally in Khanna (Punjab). PM Modi had last week said that Pitroda’s remarks reflected the “character and arrogance” of Congress.

Cyclone Fani aftermath: A story of lost boats and livelihood struggle of Chilika Lake fishermen

The days after cyclone Fani are proving painful for the local population of Odisha. The fishermen at Chilika Lake have not only lost their source of livelihood but also lost their boats in the worst ever cyclone to have hit Odisha in a long time.
The fisherman say they are now helpless and claim that no government has reached them so far. On the outskirts of Chilika Lake live 3,000 people who have lost 300 of their boats, the only source of their livelihood.

Sensex falls 372 points, Sun Pharma down 9%, Nifty’s 40 out of 50 stocks end in red

Indian share markets dropped in the late deals on Monday, May 13, 2019, after Sun Pharma shares crashed more than 20 per cent in the intraday trades on National Stock Exchange. Both the headline indices Sensex and Nifty dipped over 1 per cent today with 40 out of 50 shares of Nifty concluding in negative territory. All the sectoral indices of NSE closed in red except Nifty IT with Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Media leading the losses.

Xiaomi retains first place as biggest phone maker in India

According to IDC, Xiaomi has retained its place as the biggest smartphone maker in the country, staying ahead of Samsung in second with a YoY decline of 4.8% in 1Q19 — as opposed to Xiaomi’s YoY growth of 8.1% in 1Q19. The next three positions are held by Chinese brands, with Vivo and Realme finishing at 3rd and 5th but still emerging as the biggest gainers in this quarter. Sandwiched between them in fourth place is Oppo.
